Forecastle Festival Weekend: Tips from Friends of the Waterfront

Louisville Forecastle It is almost time to set sail again on the S.S. Forecastle Festival Weekend. Once a small local gathering back in 2012, Forecastle is now a large-scale, full on festival that attracts thousands of music fans to Louisville’s own Waterfront Park.

Forecastle founder, J.K. McKnight isn’t shying away from an eclectic lineup of artists this year. From LCD Soundsystem to Waka Flocka Flame, Charles Bradley to Vince Staples, John Moreland to Tycho, there is sure to be a performance for everyone.

For those who have never been to Forecastle before, or perhaps haven’t attended in awhile and could use a refresher, here are some hints to keep in mind this weekend.

You Don’t Need as Much Stuff as You Think

Everyone is guilty of over packing. Whether for a week long vacation, or just a day at the Waterfront. No, you don’t really need to bring an extra pairs of sunglasses, or three different kinds of lotion. It is wise to bring sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, your phone, wallet, and perhaps some ibuprofen; anything more will just be cumbersome to carry around.

It is easy to think of all the possible scenarios in which you really do need those extra items. But as soon as you walk into the festival you will forget all about them and instead focus on the music.

Plan Your Transportation Ahead of Time

ThBike transportation to Forecastleere are plenty transportation options in the city. We all want to avoid dealing with traffic, or the pains of finding parking,  If you’re looking for a vehicle, mobile apps such as Uber and Lyft offer quick and easy forms of getting around. For those who are looking to stay a little active, Louisville just recently launched the bike share program, Louvelo. There are 27 stations throughout the city, with many conveniently located near the Waterfront. Forecastle is also offering an affordable shuttle system with drop-off, and pick-up points all across town.

Have Fun at Forecastle!

Most important of all, Forecastle Festival should be a time to enjoy music, community and all the amazing things that Louisville has to offer. Take time before or after the festival to explore the city. Go to the Official Forecastle Kick-Off Party at local brewery and smokehouse Against the Grain where Royal Teeth, and local band Maximon will be starting the weekend off right. Before getting to the Waterfront for the day, check out some local eateries like the new vegan comfort cafe Morels, or grab an otherworldly margarita at Galaxie. The fun doesn’t have to stop when the music does either! Head over to Headliners Music Hall for the official after parties with Real Estate and The New Pornographers.
